Canadian Museums Association: Young Canada Works – Summer Employment Program
The Canadian Museums Association (CMA) is pleased to announce the Young Canada Works (YCW) in Heritage Organizations Program for summer 2011 – a shared initiative with the Department of Canadian Heritage.
Through the CMA’s component of this program, YCW provides unique and meaningful summer learning experiences in museums for students interested in working in Canada’s heritage sector. The program is:
a great way for students to put their skills to the test,
build career equity,
earn money for their education,
or get started on the right career path.
These work experiences will allow you to develop skills in the various operations of museums, which can include:
Museum Business & Marketing: including fundraising, museum promotion, visitor services and revenue generation operations
Museum Administration & Management: including museum operations, board of director relations and managing staff/volunteers
Collections Management & Curatorial Research: including cataloguing and exhibit production
Conservation & Preservation: including conducting artefact maintenance and restoration
Education & Interpretation: including guiding tours, conducting public outreach, and educational programming
To qualify for these summer jobs, you must meet the general eligibility criteria for the YCW program:
be legally entitled to work in Canada;
be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (Note: Non-Canadian interns holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.);
be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
be registered in the YCW on-line candidate inventory(www.youngcanadaworks.gc.ca);
be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW;
have been a full-time student in the semester preceding the YCW job;
intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job
