INF2199H Selected Topics in Health Informatics

Health Informatics (HI) is a discipline that deals with the collection, storage, retrieval communication and use of health related data, information and knowledge. The purpose of this course is to meet the growing interest in health related topics among the broader information community in general and Faculty of Information students in particular. In this course, students will be exposed to basic concepts, recurrent themes and common IT applications in HI. In particular, topics related to generic information concepts to health care will be discussed. Topics include data in health care, electronic health records, clinical decision making and decision support systems, medical language and controlled vocabularies in HI, terminology and data exchange standards in health are, health information retrieval, Socio-technical, Legal and ethical issues in HI.
