Responsibilities
The Head of Acquisitions and Electronic Resources & Serials is responsible for the management of this recently merged unit comprising 16 staff and reports to the Associate University Librarian at the Queen Elizabeth II Library. Responsibilities of this position will include:
• Administering all functions associated with the ordering, receiving and processing of requests for print and non-print material including books, e-books, serials, continuations, standing orders, government documents, and special collections.
• Reviewing, negotiating and troubleshooting licenses in consultation with the University Librarian and our consortium partners, including CAUL-CBUA and CKRN.
• Managing and monitoring the materials budget for monographs and serials in consultation with the head of Collections and Library Administration.
• Administering and maintaining the open URL resolver knowledge base for the library system.
• Serving as the university library’s expert for SirsiDynix’s Symphony acquisitions and serials modules.
• Developing the processes and policies for the implementation of a preferred acquisitions vendor in consultation with various divisions in the Queen Elizabeth II Library and other library branches.
• Managing the ongoing development of a license databank.
• Participating in the investigation of an ERMS for the library system.
• Overseeing serials stack maintenance and bindery.
• Working collaboratively with various library divisions within the Queen Elizabeth II Library and other branches in the MUN library system.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a degree from an ALA accredited graduate program in Library and Information Science. Experience in the use and management of the acquisitions and serials modules, and associated workflows, of an integrated library system is required. This experience will normally have been attained through five or more years of professional practice. SirsiDynix Symphony experience is preferred.
In addition, the successful candidate will have:
• experience administering an open URL knowledge base;
• familiarity with the tools, trends and licensing of electronic publications;
• project management experience;
• demonstrated ability to manage a large staff complement;
• experience working with databases and demonstrated understanding of database structure;
• knowledge of electronic resource management tools;
• experience in budgetary management;
• familiarity with MARC records.
Benefits
This is a tenure-track (or tenured) appointment. An appointment at the rank of Librarian II or III is anticipated. Salary ranges as of September 1, 2011 are $62,034 – $81,644 for a Librarian II and $69,878 – $113,020 for a Librarian III. Actual salary will recognize experience and qualifications. An administrative appointment as a Division Head is made for an initial three-year term (renewable on review) and comes with an administrative stipend. Who we are
The Queen Elizabeth II Library is the largest branch of a highly centralized library system serving Memorial University of Newfoundland. It contains over 1,058,600 monographs, 93,900 maps, 13,600 audio-visual titles and 70,000 journal titles, with about 80% of its serial holdings available online. The materials budget in 2010/11 was close to seven million dollars. A collegial relationship exists among the 44 professional librarians in the library system, with many opportunities to work on committees and projects with them. The Memorial University library system includes the Queen Elizabeth II Library, the Health Sciences Library, the Dr. C. R. Barrett Library (Marine Institute), and the Ferriss Hodgett Library (Grenfell Campus), as well as the Music Resource Centre and the Curriculum Materials Centre in the Faculty of Education.
