Description and duties: 

Ontario Library Service – North (OLS-North) is an unscheduled agency mandated under the Public Libraries Act, 1990, s.34 and established under the Corporations Act. It is mandated to deliver programs and services on behalf of the Minister of Culture to libraries across Northern Ontario. We are looking for a committed individual to join our Skills Development team.

Our Invitation
Ontario Library Service – North (OLS-North) invites applications for the position of Skills Development Advisor – Cataloguing and Collections. This is a permanent full-time position. The Skills Development Advisor delivers high quality services to OLS-North’s client libraries, specifically in areas of cataloguing collections, training, policy and problem-solving. Previous applicants will remain under consideration.

Qualifications: 

Job requirements:
The successful applicant will have Graduate degree in library or information management; Knowledge of public libraries and planning; Working experience in a library environment for a minimum of 1 year; Specific experience cataloguing in an automated environment for a minimum of 1 year and experience in developing library collections.

He/She will have a proven understanding of library operations and governance and be skilled at developing collection development, policies and plans. He/She will be able to draft policy and planning documents. He/She will be skilled at customizing and delivering services to fit needs of clients; Respond quickly and professionally, conduct service interviews; Demonstrate empathy and explain processes; Deal with client queries; Exhibit effective communications skills; Train individuals at different levels of understanding; Design training tools and sessions based on needs and readiness assessments; Demonstrate problem solving and decision making skills and team collaboration experience. He/She will be fluent in both English and French.
