The Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska Fairbanks seeks a self-directed, motivated, recently graduated librarian with an interest in information literacy, instruction, and outreach to serve as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Library Science in a two year fixed-term appointment. Reporting to the Head of Research, Instruction, and Outreach Services (RIOS) Department, this person will teach the Library Science 101 core class as well as individual bibliographic instruction sessions each semester in the classroom, online, and via distance delivery. An additional focus will be on the development of web-based interpretative guides and social media contacts, on site and online reference services, and the establishment of instructional and outreach services in a new integrated learning commons environment.

Qualifications: 

Knowledge of information literacy, library instruction, reference and outreach services.

Knowledge of and ability to effectively use a variety of printed and online resources (catalogs, databases, full-text sources, etc).
Ability to effectively use current library oriented instruction and interpretative software such as Libguides.
Effective interpersonal, communication, presentation, and teaching skills.
MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited program (or foreign equivalent), received between January 2010 and June 2012.
Minimum of one semester of teaching OR bibliographic instruction experience OR recent coursework in teaching methodology.
Minimum of one semester of teaching OR bibliographic instruction experience OR recent coursework in teaching methodology
Knowledge of ACRL information literacy standards for higher education.
Ability to create a course - integrated bibliographic instruction session.
