Research in Progress (RIP!): Data-Driven Knowledge Mobilization, Translation & Innovation

Research in Progress (RIP!) is a bi-weekly community event that highlights Faculty of Information researchers. Through informal yet informative talks about their current research projects, RIP! presenters seek to engage our community in a lively conversation.

Each RIP! session is one-hour in length with a focus on fostering discussion rich with varying perspectives. RIP! predominately features collaborative research; thus, faculty and librarians who are working with graduate students are invited to participate.

RIP will be held in the newly renovated Inforum.

Professional Panel on Digital Archives

Please join us for a Professional Panel on Digital Archives!

The ACA student chapter is hosting a professional panel and networking event with guest speakers who will discuss and answer questions about their careers as archivists and information professionals. Speakers include Anna St. Onge (Clara Thomas Archives, York University), Grant Hurley (University of Toronto Libraries), Emily Sommers (UTARMS), and Kathryn Lee (CBC). Light refreshments will be served.

Prof. Jacob Gaboury: Image Objects

Prof. Jacob Gaboury (Art History, SUNY Stony Brook) will be speaking about the material history of early computer graphics and visual simulation from his forthcoming book, Image Objects (MIT Press).  

Co-sponsors include the JHI Digital Humanities Network, Comparative Literature, Art History, Sexual Diversity Studies, Women and Gender Studies, Cinema Studies, and the Centre for the Study of the United States.

OLA Super Conference iSchool Alumni Reception

The Faculty of Information Alumni Association (FIAA) is hosting an alumni gathering to celebrate our super alumni! And we invite faculty members, staff, and students to come along! During the OLA Super Conference, graduates will catch up with classmates at the popular restaurant, Baton Rouge* (277 Front St. W., second floor, just a block west of the conference site) from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Just $15 ($10 for students) gets you free appetizers and a drink of your choice.

Banking as Media Industry

Professor Mark Hayward (Communications, York University) will be speaking about "Banking as Media Industry," which examines the "intersection between banking and cultural project as it relates to the incorporation of media technology throughout its history. This includes a discussion of such technologies at the ATM, drive-in banking, as well as the development of financial networks."

iSchool Student Conference

The iSchool Student Conference committee has announced this year's theme of Canada Now: Disrupting the Past|Activating the Future! There will be presentations, including posters, lightning talks, panel presentations, round-table discussion, and workshops.

The conference will take place from Friday, March 10th - Saturday, March 11th, 2017, in the Bissell Building.
